The bottom of the bag - Diabetes 365 Day 112 - Jan 25, 2008
Every now and then I clean out my backpack, based on the sand that’s in the bottom of it, I imagine that it hasn’t been cleaned since before my trip to the beach back in Dec.
Along with the sand were a few straggling test strips…I would’ve been more thrilled if they were some form of money *sigh*

Where most people would put change, I put test strips - Diabetes 365 Day 111 - Jan 24, 2008
This is the little change thing in my car, one day the test strips kept falling out of my machine pouch and I got frustrated so I picked them all up and put them where my change would sometimes be thrown.
I didn’t do this but for a couple days maybe but that was months ago and when I was cleaning out my car this evening I was reminded that the strips were still there and needed to be carried into the house.

Test Strip Landfill - Diabetes 365 Day 110 - Jan 23, 2008
I’ve been saving these for a while now, I’m kind of working on an art project that needs them.
When the project came about I was like, heck, I paid for them, I might as well get more than 5 seconds of use out of them…There’s a ton of money lying there too, a couple hundred bucks…

New Water - Diabetes 365 Day 109 - Jan 22, 2008
I’m all about Dasani water, it’s the only kind of bottled water that I’ll drink (you may remember my pyramid of Dasani water bottles).
Well, I was walking through Target and I saw the Dasani Plus water, it’s more than just the flavored stuff, it’s got vitamins…so I thought I’d try it out. The pomegranate blackberry flavor is good. As for the vitamins, I’d have to drink more than 1 bottle to see how they’re going to help me out (not that I even read what was in there, I just saw the blackberries and decided I needed a bottle)

Mad Money - Diabetes 365 Day 108 - Jan 21, 2008
Mad Money…you’re probably wondering what this has to do with diabetes…well, beyond the fact that one day we may all have to go rob a bank so that we can get the diabetes care and prescriptions and stuff that we need to live and live healthily, there was a funny part in the movie that immediately caught my eye as only something a diabetic wouldn’t be concerned about…and then that same thing turned into something funny.
I’m not going to share because it’s a mild spoiler, but just for this one part it’s worth seeing the movie (but realistically, the whole movie is worth going to see).

Nutrition Bars - Diabetes 365 Day 107 - Jan 20, 2008
I like to eat nutrition bars before I work out or go off on a bike ride. Last year I ate Clif Bars (right up until my 3rd Tour de Cure where I was sure if I ever had to eat another Clif Bar that I’d be sick) and then I switched to Snicker’s Marathon Bars. But I’m open to anything so I went to the store and was checking out the entire aisle of nutrition bars that were made available to me.
They’re good for keeping my sugars in order while I work out or ride and they’re also good for snacks and sometimes even meals.

Patch Job - Diabetes 365 Day 106 - Jan 19, 2008

Ever since the removal of my cyst, every morning and every night I’ve had to pack it with gauze so that it doesn’t get infected. It’s a royal pain in the butt (no pun intended) but if it gets infected no only will it cause me more pain and suffering physically, my numbers will get all out of whack so I gotta take care of the darn thing.

Diabetes In Movies - Diabetes 365 Day 105 - Jan 18, 2008
I was watching “Beauty Shop” with Queen Latifah in it and there was a line in it that made me laugh, “I call the shots, unless you have diabetes” and it’s been a regular thing for me to catch jabs and jokes about diabetes in movies and they don’t even have to be current movies…it’s also becoming more common in TV shows…so now, I’m on a mission and it has to do with diabetes and movies and thus netflix is involved now…

Shingles - Diabetes 365 Day 104 - Jan 17, 2008
A few years ago I had shingles on my hand. Every now and then I can feel the residual effects of having them too. All it takes is a little stress, or more commonly a high blood sugar (due to stress or illness).
It’s the worse feeling in the world, they like burn/itch and there’s nothing I can do to get rid of the pain.

Cyst Removal - Diabetes 365 Day 103 - Jan 16, 2008
I had to go to the doctor to get the pilonidal cyst removed that had been infected and I was on meds for 12 days ago. He took quite a bit out of me, but luckily it was no longer infected and it turns out it wasn’t a pilonidal cyst either…it was something else but I can’t remember what he said it was.
Now that there’s no infection and the fever is gone, I can get back to getting my numbers under control.
