I Want Tony Stark’s Glucose Monitor

By Courtney | 5 Rookie Marks »

The Incredible Hulk had a CGM. Tony Stark has a glucose monitor. What kind of diabetes apparatus will the next superhero sport?

I’ll guess we’ll see, but for a moment, let us focus on what I did see. Because, what I saw made me immediately, and out loudly, say “I want one of those”.

It was small and square and Tony put his thumb to it and a number popped up immediately. Who would’ve thought that the man behind Iron Man had to check his blood.

What he had was slick. No, it was more like sexy in my technological diabetes world.

There were no test strips, no external make your finger bleed pricking device. It didn’t even have to count down to the result. Heck, I don’t even know if he had to bleed to get a number, but he did cringe a little and kind of flick his hand that motioned to me that it hurt maybe just a tad. But then again, when we’re checking our blood 5-8 times a day and we’ve been doing it for years on end, when do we not feel a bit of pain with each finger prick?

So, I know that often in movies and even more so in our modern age with all the CGI we have at our disposal that things on screen make us wonder where “ours” is. It’s like back 25 years ago when I was watching The Jetsons and I was for sure that we’d have flying vehicles in the future (here we are in 2010, that seems like the future to me). Where are our flying cars?

The same question goes for this device that Tony Stark was using to check the toxicity levels in his blood. It doesn’t seem so outlandish that we can’t have something like that nowadays. I would find it hard to believe that the technology doesn’t exist to create such a device.

I want Tony Stark’s Glucose Monitor.

5 Rookie Marks On I Want Tony Stark’s Glucose Monitor

  1. Oh I would love one of those too. I haven’t seen the movie yet but hopefully Allison and I will watch the 1st one together soon so we can see #2. I saw Hot Tub Time Machine last night instead. And tonight we go and see Avatar.

  2. While your at it, you should get the Iron Man suit too! It would be so cool (but hard to ride in).

    Fun post, Courtney!

  3. I know! Last night I went low right in the middle of Iron Man. I tested twice (3.0, then 2.7) before I finally convinced myself I couldn’t put it off any longer and had to squeeze past the whole row to get skittles from the snack bar (didn’t have glucose tablets with me this time). The whole time I kept thinking the same thing. I’m sitting there, testing on my clunky meter, supplies spilling onto my lap, and there’s the big guy on screen testing his blood levels with a simple touch of the finger!

  4. I was thinking the Exact Same Thing!

  5. I haven’t seen the movie yet either, but that sounds totally badass!
