When I think about the dichotomies of this disease, I think of insulin, the medicine that can kill.
I think about whether I would want a pancreas or islet cell transplant if it meant that instead of insulin, I had to be on immuno-suppressive drugs.

I know I would never have met some amazing people if I had never had diabetes, people I love. But i don&#039;t know if I wouldn&#039;t have met other amazing people.
I know there are things I never would have done without diabetes, but I don&#039;t know what other things I might have done if I didn&#039;t have diabetes.

I know that diabetes is part of who I am. That&#039;s why I still call myself a diabetic, and I&#039;m comfortable with that term. Diabetes is an important part of my life. But I still want it to be over, for all of us, some day.</description>
