No more monkeys jumping on the bed…
Not really. Although, it wouldn’t not be unlikely for me to get a call like that if I had a head injury or something…it’d be right up my alley.
But the doctor did call. And here’s what was said.
They other day when I went into the office and told her about the eeee eeee eeee and the knife stabbing like symptoms that I get in my right foot, left foot/half calve, and my left hand she didn’t know what it might be because it didn’t sound like neuropathy (praise God for that one).
So, she ran some blood tests, which I needed anyways because I didn’t get them done before seeing her. Among them she checked my liver, kidneys, thyroid, blood cell counts, and vitamin D (and who knows what else). The result of it all was…NORMAL! YAY ME!!!
But that really didn’t help in telling me what the heck is causing the horrible tingly pain like sensation that I get in my right foot, left foot/half calve, and my left hand…and then she said something…
I think I have an idea of what may be causing the stabbing pain in your feet and hand. It’s possible that it’s related to your blood sugars because when our blood sugars are off it can have an effect on our nerves. I want you to make note of your blood sugars when it happens and get back to me.
So now, it’s a waiting game…waiting for it to happen again and hoping that when it does happen that I was diligent about checking my blood sugars that day…because the last time it happened (Sunday) I hadn’t checked my blood all day and I didn’t think to check it when it did happen.
Oh…I had a thought after she told me her thought…my thought was, why yes, that does make sense, and it’s not a low blood sugar thing because 1) I check my blood when I’m low, and 2) my nerves are experiencing something completely different and crazy when I’m low that I cannot tolerate…I can’t handle being touched when I low, and I can’t handle my toes or fingers touching when I low. And, after some thought, although it wasn’t often, it started back in the spring of 2007 because I was sitting in class explaining to a class mate about how my fingers and toes were touching and it was killing me…yes, my nerves are crazy when I’m low and I’m uber sensitive to touch…so, she could have a valid point in saying that the symptoms are related to my blood sugars and chances are that they’re related to elevated blood sugars because I know it’s not a low blood sugar issue…
