In which I am thankful

By Courtney | 1 Rookie Mark »

yeah, it’s going up 4 days late, but what can I say, my time in front of the computer was limited during this holiday weekend, and it was good to not be attached to my computer, i think i rather liked it :)

When it’s difficult to be thankful other days of the year because we’re too consumed with everything that sucks we’ve got a lovely holiday to help us out. And even then, on this day we give thanks, it’s hard to think out of the box beyond the basic thanks that most of us throw out: God, family, friends, and a job…but I shall make a great attempt at naming specifics…a great attempt at being thankful for 28 things since that’s how many years young I am.

  1. I’m thankful for God and Jesus and the fact that Jesus died on the cross so that I may spend my eternal life in heaven. (It gives me something to look forward to after death and I’d hate to think of spending eternity in hell or worse lying in the ground with no where to go.)
  2. I’m thankful for my family that hasn’t disowned me yet. Because Lord knows they’ve had every good reason to do so. But then again, I guess that’s what love is.
  3. I’m thankful for my friends in multitude, I have a lot of great friends.
  4. I’m thankful for Lolo, she’s just awesome and I’m lucky to have her as a piece of my life. Diabetes is essentially what brought us together and if I could go back in time and come back without this disease it’s possible I wouldn’t do it because that would mean Lolo would’ve never come into my life. It’s a bonus that we’re both triathletes and so we have something more in common with each other, and we kind of found triathlons together. She’s a keeper, and I’m thankful for her.
  5. I’m thankful for JR and GR and their family; who took me back after I basically abandoned them in…2005ish…and helped pull me out of the pit that I fell into last year.
  6. I’m thankful for my Church Alive family and most especially The Influence.
  7. I’m thankful for my Outlaws, they’re the best triathlon family ever.
  8. I’m thankful that I was able to get up this morning and go run with 500 other people.
  9. I’m thankful for Brian and Misty, whom I’m dubbing as my triathlon parents, for taking me hiking with them. I enjoy their company and their stories of Ironman races and ultra running races and all the other kinds of races that they’ve done. And they’re super educated and know lots of stuff so there’s so much to learn from them in general.
  10. I’m thankful for PN and that she understands me and how I think. It’s a hard thing to get sometimes, my thinking processes.
  11. I’m thankful for L and her whole family. They have a special spot in my heart.
  12. I’m thankful for the friends that I’ve made in the diabetes blogosphere. I think even over the interwebs that awesome friendships have been formed and many of them I’d like to meet in real life one day.
  13. I’m thankful for the support I have in accomplishing my goal to ride in every Tour de Cure in the country. It’s a big thing I’m trying to do and I couldn’t do it without support that I get.
  14. I’m thankful for the readers that I have that still come and read my blog because I know it’s been pathetic around here lately…postings have been very few and far between (I have many many half written posts…)
  15. I’m thankful that the symptoms for low blood sugars are slowly returning to me.
  16. I’m thankful that I have the choice of switching between shots and my insulin pump freely.
  17. I’m thankful that I have health insurance no matter how crappy I think it is…
  18. I’m thankful that I can see all my doctors/dentist that I’ve had for 20+ years even though my new insurance doesn’t cover them.
  19. I’m thankful for the friends that let me stay with them when I come into town for events like Tour de Cures or to run a marathon.
  20. I’m thankful that I can bike, run, and swim. And that I can do all three of them with very little rest between them.
  21. I’m thankful that my knee is finally healed.
  22. I’m thankful for the friends that talk sense into me (especially when I’m thinking of doing something that could potentially re-injure myself (like my knee)…)
  23. I’m thankful that I have a job. I may not always like it, but not liking my job is better than not having it.
  24. I’m thankful that I had a Papa that always took us on adventures and would ask where I traveled to when I rode my bike. I very much think that he’s the reason I chose cycling when I decided that I was going to be an athlete.
  25. I’m thankful for technology, particularly the technology that tells me how far I’ve gone and the elevation that I’m at when I’m hiking and then gives me pretty little graphs and maps when it’s all said and done so I can share it with people.
  26. I’m thankful for sexy (injini) toe socks that keep my feets from blistering when running and hiking.
  27. I’m thankful that unlike when I was in high school, when I don’t like a book or am having trouble getting into a book that I can put it down and walk away from it forever and pick up a book that is more my style.
  28. I’m thankful for all the diabetic athletes that are out there and inspire me to keep going and to keep trying new things and to push harder and further in the things I’m doing and for all the knowledge that their blogs offer and for their openness to answer emails when I have questions.

There we go, I made it, 28 things I’m thankful for.

Please make note that if you’re on this list, the numbers mean nothing in terms of how thankful I am, they’re simply a marker of the 28 things that I’m thankful for

  1. Great list. I’m glad it was a few days late. It’s nice to continue our thankfulness.
