Traditions

What makes a tradition…I don’t know exactly, something that happens every year, once a year…or maybe it happens more than once a year but it’s few and far between…whatever it is the proper definition for what I’m thinking isn’t in the dictionary.

I think in my family there’s only one tradition my family has and that’s at Christmas time and it’s a dessert we call tradition…we’ve had it for as long as I can remember with the exception of several years after I got diabetes and it didn’t turn out the same when made with sugar free ingredients.

More recently, as of the Tour de Cure I did in Orlando, FL in 2008, I’ve established a tradition (after doing it once, it was a tradition).

In 2008 I went to RainForest Cafe at DownTown Disney with some of my most favorite people in FL (Trevor and Mary) and some of my favorite bloggers (I like their blogs but they’re cooler in real life )Alli and Drew. After dinner, I saw a perfect picture opportunity that involved an elephant. An off limits elephant…a do not climb on elephant…the perfect temptation…and thus, a picture was taken, and a tradition was born…

When I went out to run the DisneyWorld Marathon in January of this year, I of course said “We have to go to Rainforest Cafe and take a picture on the elephant, it’s a tradition”.

The tradition thus being that when I’m in Orlando, FL, I have to go with my friends (Trevor and Mary are mandatory participants) to Downtown Disney, eat dinner at the Rainforest Cafe, and then take a picture on the elephant. It will be again repeated on Oct 5th.

Tradition to me, same place, not often done, difficult to do (getting to Orlando, FL is a special event for me), a core group of people involved.
