I get far too excited over the word “cure”
I get far too excited when I see something that says it will cure diabetes. This excitement happened today when I saw this headline:
OBESITY SURGERY CURES DIABETES
Landmark study shows it can be done.
I saw it because I keep an eye on the Weekly Nuggets on Amy Tenderich’s site Diabetes Mine and every now and then something will come across that catches my eye, as was the case today.
I was like, hey no problem, I can get fat if they’re going to perform surgery and that will cure my diabetes, I can handle that, sit around and eat twinkies, not a problem. So I clicked on the link and started reading, I should’ve known when the title was “obesity surgery” cures diabetes that it was for Type 2 patients and not Type 1.
That brought up all kinds of feelings, like, why do people continue to get to write articles about what cures diabetes and not specify in the title that it’s type 2 and why is there not as much said about curing type 1 diabetes.
It just kind of frustrates me.
It’s one of those things where I may need to walk away from the words “cure” and “diabetes” in the same sentence, because at this rate, type 2 will be cured long before type 1 and I’m going to be lucky to see a cure for type 1 diabetes in my life time (which if you think about it, is dumb! We put a man on the moon for goodness sake, and it was like 50 years ago when it happened, some one please tell me why, which technology where it is in the 21st century, we can’t cure this stupid disease…)
